Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

CONTINUED WARM WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
-Flow aloft turns more westerly across Colorado on Friday, ahead of a trough of low pressure digging into the Four Corners. Partly-cloudy skies are expected this morning, with afternoon temperatures topping out in the mid 80s.
-A weak disturbance arrives this afternoon, which will help trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area through early evening. Most of today’s storms will be weak to moderate, but the potential exists for an isolated stronger storm capable of heavier rainfall.
-Today's storms will track briskly to the E at around 25-30mph, with the best chance for a storm over the District occurring between about 1pm-7pm.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Weak to moderate showers and thunderstorms will produce rainfall amounts between Trace-0.20" in 10-30 minutes. Isolated stronger thunderstorms could produce rainfall between 0.20-0.50" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Surface moisture remains higher than expected, allowing a stronger thunderstorm to produce up to 0.70" rainfall in 45-75minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: On Saturday, the mentioned trough swings through Colorado, while a cold front arrives from the N. High temperatures will fall back into the mid to upper 70s behind the front, with a good chance for showers and thunderstorms expected, some of which will produce moderate to heavy rainfall.
