Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE
-Temperatures will be cooler today behind a cold front that moved through last night with highs this afternoon in the upper 70's to lower 80's over the plains. Moisture has increased behind the front with dew points in the 50's and with the added moisture storms that develop today will have the potential to become strong/severe.
-Thunderstorms are expected to develop either side of noon over the foothills with chances increasing over the plains between 1-2pm. Prime time for thunderstorms is from 1-8pm. Typical thunderstorms will produce moderate to brief heavy rainfall with strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, gusty winds, extended periods of heavy rainfall and possibly even a very isolated tornado.
-Best chances for strong/severe thunderstorms at this time looks to be E of I-25 and S over the Palmer Divide. Storms will generally move from W to E at around 20-25mph. Stronger storms may move from a more NW to SE direction at a slower speed. After 8pm a few lingering showers or weak thunderstorms will continue possible into the later evening.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Weak to moderate thunderstorms will produce 0.1-0.4" of rain in 10-30 minutes. Strong thunderstorms will have the potential to produce 0.4-1.2" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A large thunderstorm or slower moving thunderstorm may produce up to 2.0" of rain in 30-60 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Temperatures increase into the upper 80's to around 90 on Saturday and surface moisture will decrease. The decrease in moisture is expected to result in weaker storms on Saturday but storm coverage may be similar to today.
