Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

WARMER TODAY WITH ANOTHER CHANCE FOR AFTERNOON RAIN SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS
-Similar conditions as yesterday with an abundance of low-level moisture in place, along with warmer high temperatures will result in a chance for heavy rainfall today favoring southern and eastern portions of the District.
-Temperatures today will reach the low to mid 80's on the plains with low to mid 70's along the foothills. Dew points today will remain in the low to mid 50's signalling the increased chance for heavy rainfall. Storm motions will be fairly quick today, 10-15mph from W/SW to E/NE, helping limit point rainfall amounts. Although, like yesterday, it will not take much to produce a quick 0.5" of rain in 10-30 minutes, even under moderate storm cells.
-Storms will initiate over the higher terrain between 12-2pm with the best chance for thunderstorms in the District between 2-7pm. A few lingering light showers cannot be ruled out past 7pm before skies clear out into the overnight.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Typical rain showers/thunderstorms will produce a TR-0.3" in 10-30 minutes. A moderate to strong thunderstorm will produce 0.3-0.7" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A slow moving/stationary strong thunderstorm could produce up to 1.4" in 30-45 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: This will be the last of the cooler days this week as temperatures jump back into the 90's Thursday. A continued chance for afternoon rain/thunderstorms Thursday, with a slight chance for a heavy rainfall threat. Even warmer heading into the weekend, with slightly less chances of rain showers/isolated thunderstorms Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with a minimal heavy rainfall threat.
