Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

CONTINUED COOL WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY
-Upper level trough of low pressure will continue to impact the District today with unseasonably cool temperatures and efficient rainfall producing showers and thunderstorms. Highs this afternoon expected to reach the upper 60's to lower 70's over the plains. Normal high for Denver today is 84 degrees.
-Currently there is a lull in the shower activity over the majority of the District with the exception of Boulder County where a few showers are ongoing. Shower activity will continue to favor NW portions of the District through late morning then shower activity is expected to increase ahead of noon with thunderstorms becoming more likely. A round of showers and thunderstorms is then expected to move through the District between 1-6pm with conditions slowly drying out into the evening.
-Thunderstorms that develop today will have the potential to produce heavy rainfall but fast storm motions should help to keep the heavy rainfall brief. Excessive runoff is possible under the stronger storms especially in areas that experienced between 0.5-1.0" of rain or more yesterday (NW portions of the District and in particular Boulder County). Strong thunderstorms may also produce large hail and gusty winds.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Rain showers and weak to moderate thunderstorms will produce 0.1-0.4" in 10-30 minutes. Strong thunderstorms will have the potential to produce 0.4-1.0" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A large slower moving thunderstorm or training of thunderstorm cells may result in up to 2" of rainfall in 60 minutes or less.

A LOOK AHEAD: Behind the trough of low pressure on Saturday conditions will be dry with abundant sunshine and temperatures recovering into the 80's for highs over the plains.
