Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

HOT TODAY WITH ISOLATED HIGH-BASED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE
-High-pressure has settled over Colorado resulting in hot temperatures across the District today with highs in the low to mid 90's.
-Moisture continues to decrease across the region, although with enough instability in place, there will be a chance for some isolated high-based showers and thunderstorms to develop by mid to late afternoon, favoring southern and eastern portions of the District.
-Storms today will move to the E/NE at 13-18mph and will mainly produce gusty winds and light rainfall, with the potential for a moderate shower if surface moisture is able to increase this afternoon due to adequate surface advection. Thunderstorm activity will quickly diminish this evening with the loss of daytime heating.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Typical showers and weak thunderstorms will produce rainfall amounts of TR-0.1" in 10-30 minutes, with up to 0.3" possible in 10-30 minutes under stronger thunderstorms.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Surface moisture increases this afternoon producing a strong thunderstorm with rainfall up to 0.6" in 30-60 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Friday will be the warmest day this week with temperatures in the mid to upper 90's with a very slight chance for an afternoon shower or isolated thunderstorm. High-pressure begins to break down slightly to our west resulting in slightly cooler temperatures this weekend and better chances for rain shower/thunderstorm activity both Saturday and Sunday.
