Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

A FEW ISOLATED EVENING AND EARLY OVERNIGHT THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY
-The front edge of an upper level disturbance is currently moving through the District and will result in isolated thunderstorm activity over the District this evening continuing possible into the early overnight hours.
-Thunderstorms will produce light to moderate rainfall but should not produce heavy rainfall. Some minor runoff is likely under stronger storm cells but is not expected to produce any flood concerns. Best chances for thunderstorm activity will be through midnight.
-Storm motions will be from W to E or NW to SE at around 15-20mph. Some small hail cannot be ruled out from stronger storm cells.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Typical showers and weak thunderstorms will produce rainfall amounts of TR-0.1" in 10-30 minutes. Stronger thunderstorms could produce rainfall of 0.1-0.4" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: An isolated stronger thunderstorm becomes stationary over an area, resulting in rainfall of up to 0.6" in 30-60 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Southwest flow aloft on Friday will lead to warmer temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 80's. Instability will be greater on Friday afternoon with a slight uptick in moisture leading to a better chance of thunderstorms over the District. Moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible under stronger storms as well as the threat for severe weather.
