Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

COOLER WITH A CHANCE FOR AN ISOLATED EVENING SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM
-NW flow aloft remains over Colorado on Wednesday, as a ridge of high pressure holds to our W. Easterly flow at the surface will keep temperatures cooler today, with highs topping out in the mid 70s under partly-cloudy skies.
-Differential heating over the higher terrain will help spark a few showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, some of which may drift onto the adjacent plains early this evening. Upper-air guidance shows a generally-stable atmosphere over the plains, so any showers should remain weak and thunderstorms short-lived.
-Isolated showers and thunderstorms will track to the ESE at around 20-25mph, with the best chance for precipitation over the District occurring between 5pm-10pm.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Showers and isolated thunderstorms will produce rainfall amounts of Trace-0.15" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A stronger thunderstorm produces up to 0.30" rainfall in 30-60 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: The pattern begins to shift on Thursday, as high pressure breaks down in response to a series of Pacific disturbances tracking through the Intermountain West. Look for temperatures climbing back into the mid 80s, with an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms capable of measurable rainfall.
