Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

MOSTLY SUNNY WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE FOR ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
-Northwesterly upper-level flow aloft will continue today, creating warm conditions with highs in the mid to upper 80's, dew points in the low to mid 40's, by this afternoon. Water vapor satellite reveals a dry airmass settled across the District today, limiting chances for shower and thunderstorm activity.
-Like yesterday, storm motions will be slow; between 5-10mph from the NW to SE. PW values are expected to range from 0.6-0.7 inches with shower and thunderstorm activity mostly limited to complex terrain. However, a small chance remains for a few rain showers/isolated thunderstorms across the District between 1PM-7PM.
-Overnight, skies will gradually clear with mild conditions expected. Lows will drop into the upper 50's to low 60's.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Rain showers today will produce a trace to 0.3 inches of rainfall in 10 to 30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A slow-moving or anchored rain shower/thunderstorm will have the potential to produce 0.3-0.6 inches in 10 to 30 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: On Thursday, an upper-level disturbance over the Pacific Northwest will transport a plume of moisture into the region, supporting increased thunderstorm activity. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. On Friday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely during the afternoon and evening hours as temperatures reach the upper 80s. Saturday will be similar with highs in the upper 80s and a chance for isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms.
