Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

HOT TODAY WITH MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF RAIN SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS
-A much more active weather pattern this week as upper-level moisture has increased over the region. A good chance today for multiple rounds of rain showers/isolated thunderstorms between 10am-8pm with the best chance for thunderstorm activity between 12-6pm.
-Temperatures today will be in the low to mid 90's across the plains with mid to upper 80's along the foothills. Dew points currently in the low to mid 40's and should hold there throughout the day, combined with decent moisture aloft will result in a good chance for rain showers and isolated thunderstorms today. Typical storm motions will be from west to east between 10-20mph which will help limit point rainfall amounts, although a slower moving storm, formed along an outflow boundary could produce isolated heavy rainfall this afternoon.
-Overnight temperatures will drop into the upper 50's to low 60's across the District before a cold front moves in resulting in cooler temperatures Tuesday in the upper 70's to low 80's with an increased chance for widespread rain showers/thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Typical weak to moderate thunderstorms will produce a trace to 0.2" of rain. A strong thunderstorm will have the potential to produce 0.2-0.5" of rain in 10-30 minutes

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A strong slower moving strong thunderstorm will have the potential to produce 0.5-1.0" of heavy rainfall in 10-30 minutes

A LOOK AHEAD: Cooler over the next few days with continued chances for moderate to heavy rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures start to increase back into the 90's Thursday with 90's through the weekend along with rain showers/thunderstorm chances every afternoon and evening through Sunday.
