COOLER WITH SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF HEAVY RAINFALL
-High pressure remains anchored near the Four Corners Thursday morning, effectively drawing mid and upper-level moisture N over Colorado. Afternoon temperatures will be cooler today behind a weak cold front, topping out in the upper 80s to low 90s.
-Showers and thunderstorms will develop over the mountains and higher foothills early this afternoon, eventually tracking SE onto the adjacent plains during the afternoon and early evening hours. The threat for severe weather is low, but stronger thunderstorms will likely produce moderate to heavy rainfall.
-Today's storms will track to the SE at around 10-15mph, with the best chance for a storm over the District occurring between about 3:00pm-8:00pm.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Weak to moderate showers and thunderstorms will produce rainfall amounts between 0.10-0.40" in 10-30 minutes. Stronger thunderstorms could produce rainfall between 0.40-1.30" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Training of thunderstorm cells over the same area results in heavy rainfall up to 3.00" in 60-90 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Some drying arrives on Friday, as the ridge flattens and nudges further W into Arizona, keeping the best moisture W over the mountains. Expect afternoon temperatures back in the low to mid 90s, with mainly isolated chances for showers and thunderstorms expected at this time.
