Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

UNSEASONABLY COOL WITH RAIN SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS
-Trough of low pressure will move through the District today producing a good amount of cloud cover which will help to keep temperatures unseasonably cool with highs in the upper 70's to around 80 over the plains. Normal high for Denver today is 85 degrees.
-There will be a good chance for rain showers and isolated thunderstorms, some of which may begin to develop before noon. If temperatures remain on the cool side precipitation will likely favor rain showers and if we get enough warming a thunderstorm or two cannot be ruled out. An isolated strong thunderstorm is possible, favoring S areas of the District and Palmer Divide area which may produce brief heavy rainfall. Lesser chances for strong thunderstorms further N.
-Prime time for showers and thunderstorms will be from Noon to 8pm. Showers and thunderstorms will generally move from W to E at 10-20mph. After 8pm shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to have pushed E'ward with generally dry conditions for the remainder of the evening and overnight period.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Typical rain showers and weak to moderate thunderstorms will produce a trace to 0.3". An isolated strong thunderstorm will have the potential to produce 0.3-0.8" in 10-30 mintues. Supplemental QPF is available at https://qpf.udfcd.org

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A large, slower moving thunderstorm or training of thunderstorm cells may produce rainfall amounts of up to 1.6" in 45-75 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Drier and warmer air will move into the District on Sunday with temperatures recovering back into the 80's to around 90 over the plains. Generally dry conditions are expected N of the Palmer Divide but an isolated shower or weak thunderstorm cannot be ruled out in the afternoon.
