Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

WARMING FURTHER WITH ISOLATED LATE AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS
-High pressure will continue to build aloft today allowing temperatures to reach the upper 80's to lower 90's over the plains. Mid and upper level moisture will be moving in from the S as the day progresses and may produce isolated thunderstorm activity late in the afternoon and evening.
-Best chances for isolated thunderstorms will be S of I-70 and in particular over the Palmer Divide in Douglas County between 4-9pm. Southern storms may produce outflow boundaries/gust fronts that move northward and initiate new storms further north into the District, possibly even N of I-70. Storms that develop today will generally produce light rainfall and gusty winds although a stronger storm may produce brief moderate rain.
-After 9 or 10pm any thunderstorm activity is expected to have diminished with dry conditions for the remainder of the evening and overnight period.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Showers and weak thunderstorms will produce a trace to 0.1" of rain. Moderate thunderstorms will have the potential to produce 0.1-0.3" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A strong thunderstorm is able to develop along a gust front/outflow boundary with the potential to produce 0.2-0.6" in 10-30 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Temperatures will continue to run in the upper 80's to lower 90's over the plains on Saturday. A passing upper level disturbance will result in a much better chance for storms with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorm activity expected. Some storms on Saturday may produce moderate rain, heavy rainfall is not expected at this time but cannot be ruled out.
