Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE
-A trough of low pressure approaching from the W will initiate multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms over the District today. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing brief heavy rainfall that may lead to excessive runoff but flash flooding is unlikely.
-Showers and thunderstorms will develop over the higher terrain before noon with the first round of storms expected to enter the District between 1-2pm with additional rounds likely into the evening. Thunderstorms are expected to form N to S oriented lines which will move from W to E at around 20-25mph. The fast storm motions will help to limit point rainfall amounts from a single storm helping to keep any heavy rainfall relatively brief.
-The first round or two of storms will have the greatest potential to produce heavy rainfall with subsequent rounds likely only producing light to brief moderate rain. Greatest threat for extended periods of heavy rainfall will be from large thunderstorms or slower moving thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may become severe with gusty straight-line winds being the primary threat.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Weak to moderate thunderstorms will produce 0.1-0.4" in 10-30 minutes. Strong thunderstorms will have the potential to produce 0.4-1.2" of heavy rain in 10-30minutes. Supplemental QPF is available at https://qpf.udfcd.org

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A very large or slower moving thunderstorm may produce up to 2.0" of rain in 45-75 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: Drier and warmer air will move into the District on Wednesday resulting in only isolated afternoon thunderstorm activity and temperatures warming into the upper 80's to lower 90's over the plains.
