Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program

CONTINUED COOL WITH AFTERNOON & EVENING SHOWERS
-Weak high pressure builds into Colorado Wednesday, ahead of a trough of low pressure currently centered over southern Nevada. Afternoon temperatures will remain below average, topping out in the upper 40s to low 50s.
-Showers will develop over the mountains and foothills early this afternoon, aided by differential heating and instability over the higher terrain. At the surface along the Front Range, upslope NE winds will help focus these showers over the District during the afternoon and evening.
-Lower elevation rain showers and foothills snow showers will only produce light precipitation amounts. Today's showers will generally lift from south to north across the District, with the best chance for precipitation persisting through about 9:00pm. Isolated showers remain possible during the overnight period, with low clouds, drizzle, and patchy fog possible by Thursday morning.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Showers will produce rainfall amounts of Trace-0.15" in 10-30 minutes.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: A slow-moving, heavier band of showers produces rainfall up to 0.40" in 60-90 minutes.

A LOOK AHEAD: The mentioned trough of low pressure lifts NE across the Rockies Thursday, which will keep temperatures in the low 50s, along with a good chance for showers, isolated thunderstorms, and measurable rainfall during the afternoon and evening.
