Flash Flood Prediction Program

FLASH FLOOD WATCH
The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH for: the following counties: Boulder (City of Boulder affected, Four Mile Burn Area affected), Jefferson, Broomfield
including:

from: 1100 AM to 1000 PM. The National Weather Service in Boulder has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the higher terrain of Boulder County above 6,000ft from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM. The NWS has issued an Areal Flood Watch for Boulder, Broomfield and Jefferson Counties from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM and implies flash flooding, thus Message 2's will supersede the Message 1's for Boulder, Broomfield and Jefferson Counties and will go into effect at 11:00 AM. The Message 2's from the MHFD will coincide with Message 1's for the remainder of the District and may be extended until midnight if a flooding threat remains.
Prime time for flooding: 1100 AM to 1000 PM.

Forecast rainfall: Moderate to strong thunderstorms will have the potential to produce heavy rainfall rates of 1.0-2.0" in 10-30 minutes. A nearly stationary thunderstorm or large thunderstorm complex may produce up to 3.0" of heavy rain in 45-75 minutes.

The most likely areas to be impacted by flooding are:

X Mountain streams & floodplains; road crossings; canyon roads & highways; recreational trails; adjacent open space areas/campgrounds/parks; fishing access points & stream reaches; buildings near streams; utilities

X Urban streams/gulches; road crossings; recreational trails; adjacent open space areas/campgrounds/parks; floodplain properties; utilities

X Urban streets, intersections, low lying areas, known trouble spots

X Mountain locations subject to mud/rock/debris slide

Additional information: Excessive runoff roadways is likely to develop over the District this afternoon with Flash flooding of watercourses possible today should a stronger thunderstorm be observed. Although NWS Flood/Flash Flood Watches are not in effect for the remainder of the District the threat is elevated area wide.

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible within the watch area.
