At 248 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Lone Tree, or 12 miles south of Denver, moving south at 5 mph.
Penny size hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with
this storm.
Locations impacted include...
Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Greenwood Village and Lone Tree.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

thunderstorms along I-76 near Brighton, or 20 miles northeast of
Denver, moving northeast at 5 mph.
Half inch hail and winds in excess of 35 mph will be possible with
this storm. New storms will develop towards the southwest along I-
76 towards north Denver.
Locations impacted include...
Northern Denver, Thornton, Commerce City, eastern Northglenn,
Brighton, northern Denver International Airport, Lochbuie, Hudson,
Barr Lake and Todd Creek.

* At 355 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Southwestern Denver, western Aurora, southeastern Lakewood,
southwestern Centennial, northwestern Highlands Ranch, Littleton,
Englewood, Greenwood Village, Sheridan, Cherry Hills Village,
Cherry Creek Reservoir and Columbine.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
South Platte River, Bear Creek, Cherry Creek, Little Dry Creek,
Big Dry Creek, Dutch Creek and Willow Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, highways and underpasses. Additionally, country
roads, farmlands along the banks of creeks, and other low lying
areas are subject to flooding.

Watkins, or 20 miles east of Denver, moving south at 10 mph.
Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include...
Bennett.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Prepare for sudden gusty winds. Secure loose objects and move to a
safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
If on or near a lake, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for Portions of central, north central, and
northeast Colorado, including the following areas, in central
Colorado, Central and Southeast Park County and Jefferson and West
Douglas Counties Above 6000 Feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park
Counties Below 9000 Feet. In north central Colorado, Larimer
County Below 6000 Feet/Northwest Weld County and Larimer and
Boulder Counties Between 6000 and 9000 Feet. In northeast
Colorado, Boulder And Jefferson Counties Below 6000 Feet/West
Broomfield County, Elbert/Central and East Douglas Counties Above
6000 Feet and North Douglas County Below 6000 Feet/Denver/West
Adams and Arapahoe Counties/East Broomfield County.
* Through this evening.
* Increasing moisture and instability today will lead to widespread
thunderstorm development by the early afternoon. Heavy rain and
flash flooding will be possible in these slow moving storms,
especially over burn areas.
* Rapid increases in water in creeks and small drainages could make
roads become quickly impassable.
