Heavy Precipitation Outlook
Flash Flood Prediction Program
-------------------------
RAIN SHOWERS AND POSSIBLY A WEAK THUNDERSTORM OR TWO LIEKLY THROUGH
MIDNIGHT AND BEYOND
An additional round of widely scattered rain showers and isolated
weak thunderstorms has developed and will be passing through the
District late this evening.
Showers are fast moving, and heavy rainfall is not expected to occur,
but a few areas may experience a brief burst of moderate rain under
weak thunderstorms, rainfall amounts will generally remain under
0.2” with isolated higher amounts possible. Just enough rain to
produce some minor runoff in the gutters for most regions. The back
edge of the showers are 2-3 hours out and then completely dry
conditions are expected for the remainder of the evening and overnight
period.
If a stronger thunderstorm is able to develop a brief burst of heavy
rainfall may occur but the chances are minimal and will be very
isolated.
STORM RAINFALL POTENTIAL AND DURATION: Rain showers will produce a
trace to 0.1" of precipitation. Weak thunderstorms may result in
rainfall rates of 0.1-0.3" of rain in 10-30 minutes.
WORST CASE SCENARIO: Although unlikely if a stronger thunderstorm is
able to develop rainfall rates of 0.3-0.8" of rain possible in 10-30
minutes.
A LOOK AHEAD: Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms are expected
again on Thursday some of which may produce brief heavy rainfall, hail
and gusty winds in the afternoon and evening.
